Will there be a snow day tomorrow in Ontario?
There is no single province-wide snow-day threshold. Ontario school boards and transportation authorities make local operating decisions using weather, road, transportation, and safety conditions. The Ontario Education Act allows a board to close a school temporarily when closure is unavoidable because of transportation failure, inclement weather, or a similar emergency.
The calculator above estimates weather disruption for the location you enter. It is not an official closure notice, and a bus cancellation does not necessarily mean a school building is closed.
How Ontario school-weather decisions differ by region
- Toronto: TDSB says severe-weather decisions consider current and forecast weather and road conditions, with cancellation or closure information posted by 6:00 AM when needed. TDSB also notes that a bus cancellation does not automatically mean schools are closed.
- Waterloo Region / Kitchener: WRDSB and Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region distinguish transportation cancellations from school closures. WRDSB guidance says frigid conditions can cancel buses while schools remain open.
- Ottawa: Ottawa Student Transportation can cancel transportation for the day because of unsafe weather or road conditions while schools remain open. The transportation authority reviews conditions early in the morning and communicates service cancellations around 6:00 AM.
Ontario guidance reviewed September 11, 2026. Official school-board, school, or transportation notices always take priority over this estimate.

Bus cancellation vs. school closure
Ontario families should check both the school board and the relevant transportation authority. Several Ontario systems explicitly separate transportation cancellations from school closures, so a cancelled bus route or system does not by itself prove that the school is closed.
This distinction is why ChanceOfSnowDay reports a weather-based school-closure estimate rather than presenting transportation status as an official closure result.
How the Ontario estimate works
The current hardened baseline model checks forecast snowfall around the morning commute, overnight accumulation, freezing precipitation and refreeze signals, severe cold, wind gusts, and visibility. It does not claim to know a board's historical closure behavior unless that information has been separately verified and added.
